May Summary

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

Running: 139 miles
Biking: 90 miles
Gym Workouts: 8

My numbers were way down this month compared to April, but that’s mainly due to my doing a few races. I’ve been feeling pretty strong, and I was really happy with my performance in the Indy half marathon. I really need to make sure I get in that third gym workout each week, though. I know that will be necessary to stay healthy as I start to increase my miles again for my fall marathon.

April Summary

Saturday, April 30th, 2005

Running: 153 miles
Biking: 288 miles
Gym Workouts: 13

This month marked my return to normal amounts of running. I think all the cycling has helped me build some more endurance without putting any pressure on my body. I was pretty good about getting three gym workouts in each week, and I even set a 10K PR while not even trying very hard. All in all, that’s a pretty good month, and I did not have to visit the elliptical trainer at all!

March Summary

Thursday, March 31st, 2005

Running: 61 miles
Biking: 121 miles
Elliptical: 333 minutes
Gym Workouts: 12

March had a ton of gym workouts in it plus my return to running. I spent the early part of the month on the bike and the elliptical trainer, but the last couple weeks I have been able to run again. Now I really have to pay close attention to my form when I run so I can keep doing it!

February Summary

Monday, February 28th, 2005

Running: 57 miles
Biking: 68 miles
Elliptical: 325 minutes
Gym Workouts: 6

February was marked by my hurting myself to the point that I had to stop running. I also had a week off after the marathon where I had to just rest completely, so my running totals are way down. Fortunately I have learned to substitute in the elliptical trainer, so hopefully when I start running again I will still have most of my fitness.

January Summary

Monday, January 31st, 2005

Running: 160 miles
Biking: 62 miles
Gym Workouts: 5

January included a couple races and the beginning of the taper for the big day. I’m happy with those totals. All I have to do now is show up healthy and ready to go in a little over a week.

December Summary

Friday, December 31st, 2004

Running: 205 miles
Biking: 95 miles
Gym Workouts: 8

I know that’s my highest monthly running total ever. I’m happy with it. That included two 22-mile training runs and my best race so far.

November Summary

Tuesday, November 30th, 2004

Running: 175 miles
Biking: 76 miles
Gym Workouts: 6

I’m pretty sure that’s my highest monthly running total ever. It included some really good high points, too. The Turkey Trot was probably my best race ever, and my 20-miler from last weekend was the farthest I’ve ever run where I felt strong the whole time. I’m really starting to get pumped about the marathon!

October Summary

Sunday, October 31st, 2004

I saw Richard doing this and thought it seemed like a good idea. I have a spreadsheet where I summarize the miles from my workouts, but I only tend to go through and enter everything in about once a month or so. It would certainly be easier if I did it more often!

Running: 150 miles
Biking: 45 miles
Gym Workouts: 4

Subject to the accuracy of my spreadsheet, I only had 108 miles in September, so this is a pretty significant increase. I think that mostly comes from converting Monday from a gym day to a running day.
